Former Grant Wood Fellow T.J. Dedeaux-Norris has been promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure at the School of Art and Art History with a 25% appointment in African America Studies. Dedeaux-Norris was 2016-17 Painting and Drawing Fellow.

T.J. Dedeax-Norris (f.k.a. Tameka Jenean Norris) received their undergraduate degree at the University of California (Los Angeles) and an MFA from the Yale University School of Art. They have participated in the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (ME), the Fountainhead Residency (Miami), the Hermitage Artist Retreat (FL), and the MacDowell Colony (NH). Their practice critiques the invisibility of blackness in cultural forms built upon the appropriation of popular and sacred black expressions and idioms. Their group exhibitions include Radical Presence: Black Performance in Contemporary Art at the Walker Art Center (MN), the Studio Museum (Harlem), and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco). Their feature-length film/installation Meka Jean: How She Got Good premiered at Prospect 3 (New Orleans) and was shown at Emerson Dorsch Gallery (Miami) and the David Shelton Gallery (Houston). Solo exhibitions include Figge Art Museum (Davenport, IA), Lombard Freid Gallery (NYC), Ronchini Gallery (London), and 1708 Gallery (Richmond, VA). Dedeax-Norris continues their work on an NEA-grant-funded project in York (AL) in partnership with the Coleman Center for the Arts.
